It was the AFC Baltimore Ravens against the NFC San Francisco 49ers, the two coaches were brothers, (separated in age by a mere 18 months). There were story lines galore in this 2013 version of America’s best in sports. Really? I have one too!
At the end of the day, after all the stories and remarks by the “expert” pundits the scoreboard read “Ravens 34, 49ers 31.” The headlines and story lines escalated to crescendo proportions.
If this was a Christian event I wonder if the same endless, tireless, writing and media coverage would have been blasted out to the world for all to see what the Lord is doing and saying in this….THE LAST DAYS? My great suspicion would be, probably not. Yes, not even in the so-called “Christian” world (especially I America) would have tuned in to such an event. Only those who are truly tuned in to God would have joined in…and that would have been the “few” compared to the “many” who have been called.
Being a Christian is not a game of Hide and Seek: Hiding in the things of this world, while only seeking the things of God when it is convenient, or when one needs a little boost in order to get into the affairs of the next week.
The “Christian” community has grown cold in their spiritual hunger and thirst for that intimate relation with the Lord Jesus Christ. Please do not take this wrong. I am not saying one cannot watch a few sporting events or other events, (especially of this magnitude). What I am saying is that Sports and other attractions of this world has consumed Christian America, indeed the whole of Christendom.
This is the reason I would like to share a word with you. For the rest of the story please go to our website at www.whom43.org
For other readers of the website the above portion will be repeated, so for you Facebook readers simply scrawl down to the sub-heading: “RAVENS 34, 49ERS 31”
“RAVENS 34, 49ERS 31”
Within minuets, (probably seconds), the Smartphones, Tablets, and computers were burning with gigabytes of typing and other communication about just what had transpired.
The Headlines were many, but there are two in which I would like to make comment.
In the first, the Associated Press sports writer Jessica Gresko penned the following headline: FANS MOB BALTIMORE STREETS TO CELEBRATE RAVENS WIN.
Now, certainly there is nothing wrong with being excited if your team wins….or being in the mully grubs if your team looses; but what transpired afterwards with many people on that day and night is what has become an epidemic of disease that has infected the societies of the world. It could be called “Sports Mania.” Mania is defined by Merriam-Webster as “excitement manifested by mental and physical hyperactivity, disorganization of behavior, and elevation of mood; specifically: the manic phase of bipolar disorder.”
Please allow me to take a few excerpts from this well written article in order to drive my point:
BALTIMORE (AP) — Hundreds of giddy Ravens fans poured into the streets Sunday night, whooping, hollering and high-fiving complete strangers as they celebrated…..”
….Bartenders sprayed purple party string into the air.
“I love this team. I love this city!” screamed Andrew Bieler, 21, shortly after the game ended.
Ashlee Tuck, 28, shouted “Yes!” and alternated between kissing her boyfriend and dancing as fans streamed out of the bar.
Michael Falls, 25, said he plans to take Monday off from his accounting job and his boss was going to do the same.
“I’m going to live up the night,” he said.
Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake joined in the fun, dancing and singing alongside the fans……Fans came decked out in purple for the game, many arriving at bars hours early. Women arrived with their nails painted purple. Men wore purple Mardi Gras beads. There were purple-feathered boas; purple, black and white camouflage pants; and a sea of purple and black jerseys.” (emphasis mine).
My, oh my….and list goes on at http://bigstory.ap.org/article/fans-mob-baltimore-streets-celebrate-ravens-win
There is more, if you can bear it at: http://www.kpho.com/story/20954022/harbaugh-brothers-stage-dramatic-super-bowl
It does not take a high degree of spirituality not only to discern the spirit of the thing, and the biblical understanding of the end time prophecies, but also the hypocrisy of the media….indeed, even the “religious” world.
Can you imagine a Christian event where people are so excited over what God does: His miracles….the blind see, the lepers are cured, the lame walk, and the captives are set free!?
So excited that the boss and you “take Monday off” in celebration!? Or, “I’m going to live up the night.”? Or again, they were just “kissing and dancing” in the (bars), the event center?
Wow, this is a big one: The Mayor “joined in the fun, dancing and singing alongside…” all those other fanatical Christians? Oh! And “Just look at them. They are all wearing purple this and purple that. Just look at those ridiculous Christians putting on such a thing.”
WHAT DO YOU THINK? Do you think we would get the same articles written, in the same way?
Now, please, don’t get mad at me. Get mad at God….He had the BOOK written so we would know how to conduct ourselves and live our life on earth in order to give Him glory and honor…..choosing that which brings life.
Being happy and excited that your team won….yes; but “mania?” I think not.
Yes, I’m glad the Ravens won (sorry 49er fans); but I will reserve my dancing for Lord…not because of the game…but, my excitement over being one of the children of God!
As for me and my house “mania” is reserved for the Lord, and HIM ONLY!
Though it may be called “mania” when referring to sports, Hollywood, cesspool, movies, or demonic video games, or the array of many other things that has taken the world by storm….I call it, “the spirit of the world;” the Bible calls it “the spirit of the antichrist.”
Make no mistake. The “days of Noah, and of Sodom” are upon us! These are the “last days” spoken of by the prophets, apostles, and Jesus of an age gone by, but still lives on today in His modern day messengers of the same name by the authority of Jesus.
The “preaches of righteousness” as Noah (2 Peter 2:4-11), and the proclamations of ones such as the prophet Joel (Joel 2:1-3; 12-17) still rings on in our day! And even then, many are not hearing, as they are preoccupied with things of this world. We must remember the words of our Lord Jesus, “You are in the world, but not of the world.” We have been called out, separated, set apart for a higher calling than to participate in the “mania” of this world.
The Spirit of the Lord is saying to the church, “Take heed My people as the days are getting short. Am I not giving advance warning of impending danger, that is fast advancing upon the earth, through My messengers that I have sent to you? Will you not listen to the shofar, the trumpeting of My apostles and prophets proclaiming ‘Come out from among the world, and touch not of the unclean things by separating yourselves from such things and be reunited to the One who gave His life.’ Am I not again saying for my kings and priests, who are called by My name, to weep between the porch and the alter? Come, My people, into repentance! Will you not serve Me with your whole heart, your whole soul? Return to your first love and live” says the Lord your God.
